Anceas Posted 23 August , 2007 Share Posted 23 August , 2007 Does anyone have any information about: S.S. Halifax (Halifax, N.S.) lost in 1917 S.S. Northumbria (London) lost in 1915 S.S. Shadwell (Sunderland) lost in 1918 I have so far been unsuccessful in finding out anything about these ships. Did they simply go missing?
Michael Lowrey Posted 23 August , 2007 Share Posted 23 August , 2007 Anceas, Northumbria: 872 grt, missing after sailing from the left Firth of Forth on December 23, 1915, Granton-London, coal -- probably not a war loss. Several other ships simply disappeared at that time and have seen news accounts noting very bad weather at the time. Halifax: 1875 grt, built 1888, Missing since sailing from St. Michael's, Azores, 11 Dec 1917, voy. New York - Bordeaux, general cargo Shadwell: 4091 grt, built 1904, not sunk. Rather she was damaged by a torpedo from UB 50 on March 22/23, 1918 north of Bizerta 37°53'N, 09°54'E. 13 killed. Best wishes, Michael
