smilingsixth Posted 5 January , 2004 Share Posted 5 January , 2004 I have a small collection of R.A.Ch.D officrs and a few of the cards are named was woundering if anybody had any details about the men 1 - Rev E.J. Kennedy 2 - Rev. A W. Boodle 3 - The Rev C R Farnsworth, think he was a chaplain to the Salford Pals but have not been able to confirm this. The first two might havesome sort of connection with South Wales, can not find them in Who's Who's or on Officers died. Thanks in advance - Simon
Yorts Posted 6 January , 2004 Share Posted 6 January , 2004 Hi, Have you tried checking the army list, or perhaps as a more profitable source, a clerical dictionary e.g. Kelly's (if he were Anglican) or one of the various publications for other denominations. Hope this suggestion helps, Rgds, Alex.
michaeldr Posted 6 January , 2004 Share Posted 6 January , 2004 Simon, re E. J. Kennedy I don't have very much but if it helps From 'Chaplains in Conflict' by Stephen H Louden, Avon Books, 1996 Beneath the photograph the text runs; "The Reverend E. J. Kennedy, Chaplain Major to The Expeditionary Force 'This is the happy warrior, this is he Whom every man in arms should wish to be.' These lines were quoted by the editor of Kennedy's book 'With The Immortal Seventh Division,' Hodder and Stoughton, 1916. In the preface to this book the Bishop of Winchester refers to Kennedy's 'commanding stature, and fine physical manhood,' and an ordinary soldier wrote, after Kennedy's death, that he was 'a real manly Christian gentleman.' This photograph represents the accepted ideal of an Army Chaplain in those days, a man on equally good terms with Church, State and the ranks." Regards Michael D.R. Thanks in advance - Simon Rev E J Kennedy was the author of the book 'With the Immortal Seventh Division' Hodder & Stoughton 1917. He was Church of England Chaplain. He died at home in October 1915. There is photograph of Rev E J Kennedy in Stephen H Louden's Book 'Chaplains in Conflict' The Rev (later The Venerable) Algernon William Boodle served as Temporary Chaplain to the Forces 1915-16 The Rev Charles Roy Farnworth served a Temporary Chaplain to the Forces 1914-16. No obvious connection with South Wales.
