ttd0 Posted 8 August , 2007 Share Posted 8 August , 2007 Hi, having spent several years researching army records of relatvies I am now going to have to turn my hand to the Navy. I have a newspaper cutting from July 1936 covering the Diamond Wedding of my Great-Great Grandparents. At the time they were living in Liverpool. My GGGFather William C Corrin was born in the Isle of Man in Sept 1855, went to sea aged 12 and was made a master mariner in 1874 (like his father, who was a well known mariner on the island). Now the military bit, according to the report he joined the RNR as a Lt in July 1917 and retired two years later. To me he seems a bit old to have joined but I suppose there was a war on and he had vast experience. I have census data for him so could do with knowing about how to find his RNR record. Any help appreciated.
per ardua per mare per terram Posted 9 August , 2007 Share Posted 9 August , 2007 There were several 70+ year olds brought in with the RNR Trawler Section for example; they drove their naval escorts mad apparently; due to their lack of disciplne. His service details should be in ADM 240 and maybe more in ADM 340 his medal entitlement should be shown on the alphabetical medal roll in ADM 171/93 at Kew. As you are only asking about the military bit, have you found the records for his master's ticket and mechant service career? horatio2 Posted 9 August , 2007 Share Posted 9 August , 2007 The RNR Officers' pay and appointing ledgers at the Fleet Air Arm Museum may also have a few interesting nuggets of info.
