Royal Navy Ship?

Hi All,

As regards some RN ships being identified with an Alpha-numeric designation (HMS R1, for example) is anyone aware of any RN ships identified with the prefix 'S'?? (I'm aware there were some US subs named with an 'S' prefix, but I'm looking for a Royal Navy connection)

Thanks in advance!

Mark

Hello Mark

Found 3 submarines with 'S' prefix in RN commision.

S1 launched 28.2.14 served 4th Flottila at Dover 1914, 8th Flotilla at Harwich 1914-15

S2 launched 14.4.15. had short RN service after trials.

SWORDFISH Steam submarine. 18.3.1916. Renamed S1 in 4.16.

(Ships of the Royal Navy by J.J. Colledge)

Hope this helps

There was an S3 but it was never commissioned by the RN, completed 9.15. All three boats were then passed over to the Italian Navy.
