Hi,

I am looking for any information on 2nd Lt William Jackson, 11th Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers, attached 23rd Battalion Royal Fusiliers, who was killed in action on 30th September 1918.

Thanks Mark

He's in the Roll of Honour in the 23rd RF History, but nothing else. The 2nd Division History mentions the action: the Div had just crossed the Cana du Nord SE of Cambrai, and the 99th bde (including the 23 RF) attacked a strong position on the cambrai-Masnieres road, on a piece of high ground called Mont-sur-l'Ouevres and a railway line. 2 officers and about 60 men were casualties, and the attack wasn't pressed home.

In the appendix listing casualties in the Divisional History, Jackson isn't mentioned, but this must be an oversight.

Officers Died CD shows him to be in 1st Bn RDF as opposed to 11th shown on CWGC site

Hi Peter and Steven,

Thanks for the information.

I think I have managed to find his medal card, and a mention in the LG.

Regards Mark
