kevin dunion Posted 7 July , 2007 Share Posted 7 July , 2007 I am researching ELIZABETH JOHNSTON( pictured) a 27 year old QMAAC worker who is listed on the CWGC. She died in strange circumstances falling from the tower of a church in Rouen on Christmas Day 1918. A book was written about her in c1920 by a family friend which includes excerpts from her diaries and letters. The book also includes details of letters from those who worked with her- including NANCY C RODGERS, MADGE DEANS and MISS CHRISTIAN LORIMER . ( Miss Lorimer was an Administrator and Elizabeth seems to have been based at Camp 4, in Rouen) I know nothing more about them or indeed about Camp 4 so any information would be very gratefully received. Why Elizabeth was at the top of that tower is not clear - she had said she was going to the morning service at Rouen Cathedral but instead went to St Ouen Church. We do know that she had been there a week previously in the company of a young Canadian soldier called DONALD DOUGLAS CAMERON, who was present at her funeral in St Severs Cemetery . Again information on him would also be very welcome.
