Here's a tough question which I hope someone in the U.K. may be able to answer.

As you know, 'If You Were the Only Girl in the World,' was a song that came out of a London West End show during (I believe) the 1917-1918 period. A duet sung by a man and a woman, it became an instant hit with officers who had seen the show while on leave.

Years ago, I knew who sang it, but I can no longer find the source of that information. Perhaps someone in the WFA can help me, and I hope this will prove to be so.

Written by Clifford Grey, with lyrics by Nat D Ayer, it was part of the 1916 show The Bing Boys Are Here. It was sung in Lodon by Violet Lorraine and George Robey.
