hello all, my grandfather was first mentioned in dispatches on 11/5/1916, he was a deckhand on a converted trawler/ minesweeper, can anyone tell me what actions and events where going on in that area about that date, thankyou all, regards john

He was awarded the MID for Operations with the Eastern Mediterranean Squadron between the landing in the Gallipoli Peninsula in Apl 1915 and the evacuation Dec 1915 - Jan 1916.

London Gazette issue 29581 published 12th May 1916

hello again charles, i have managed to access the gazette, thanks for that, was all the mids listed there because in our local archives in grimsby on franks record card it states three mentions, i just wondered if you could enlighten me, thankyou , regards john

Yes, all MID's are mentioned in the London Gazette, its not easy to search but if you know the years awarded search for 'Frank Baxter' or Baxter and search through the list it puts up. This is the search page;
