Michael Posted 27 December , 2003 Share Posted 27 December , 2003 I guess this one is for Terry D. The above Buffs officer's forenames were Alexander Frederick although on the CWGC site he is listed as F Worster (no forename given). Could this be a scanning error or perhaps he was always known as Fred (erick). Michael
Terry Denham Posted 27 December , 2003 Share Posted 27 December , 2003 Could be a scanning error or that he was simply 'F' on his records. Also many people were known by their second 'first' name if they preferred it. Where have you got his names from? If it is only SDGW, then CWGC will not change it as that has too many errors. However, if you have some other evidence, then it can be changed.
Michael Posted 28 December , 2003 Author Share Posted 28 December , 2003 Terry So far I have got his name from: The Historical Records of the Buffs Roll of MC's for the Buffs Medal Index Card ODITGW London Gazette for his Bar. These sources confirm that he was Alexander Frederick. I've got to check his service record, it may include some personal info in there. I'll e-mail CWGC to see if there is a mistake, but if the man wanted to be known as Frederick then so be it. Michael
Terry Denham Posted 28 December , 2003 Share Posted 28 December , 2003 Michael You seem to have sufficient supporting evidence. It is likely to be a transcription error at some time in the past or an error on the information supplied to CWGC. Your email should sort it!
