Hello

Purchased this postcard of a highly decorated officer of the German forces.

However can anyone identify him please.

Many thanks,

Bob Norman

The inscription includes 'KuK', so he's Austro-Hungarian, not German.

Blimey,Bob,

He's got more gongs than J.Arthur.

Does it look like Oberst or oberst lt.under the 'name'?

Old style germanic writing.Bob Lempke might be able to decypher it for you.

Where did you find the pc?

Dave.

Hello

Many thanks for your reply.

Item purchased recently ( along with others that I have posted) from my local car boot.

Doesn't often happen I hasten to add.

It is a used field postcard so I assume that he is somebody fairly famous at the time.

The sender has a very neat style of handwriting ( old Germanic?) but it is all Greek to me!

Regards,

Bob Norman

As far as I can make out:

Oskar F.H.

Oberstlt.

Insp. a. (or d.) Lehrbatll.

u. K.u.K. ...

?format.

A.O.K. (or R.O.K.)

10

Oberstleutnant (Lt-Col) F.H. Oskar, Inspektor of a Lehrbatallion and Royal & Imperial (i.e. Austro-Hungarian) something... er, Reichs-Oberkommando 10??

Perhaps some sort of German-Austrian liaison officer? Need someone who knows what the abbreviations stand for!

Can you post the other side? That might give some more clues. I can read Greek and Old Germanic! :P

Hold hard — the photographer's imprint, if I'm not mistaken, is Potsdam. Is this Prince Oskar of Prussia ?

AOK = Armee Oberkommando

In that case, Adrian, I think we qualify for a cut of the proceeds when Kaiseroffensive puts it on eBay ... :D

Gentlemen

Certainly you shall a percentage of sales ( shall we say 5%?)

I certainly don't plan to do so for some considerable time if at all.

You will however always be in my debt.

First class piece of work to all concerned!

Handsome fellow this Prince Oskar.

I trust that you are young gentlemen who are not in desperate need of cash?
