taucher Posted 6 June , 2007 Share Posted 6 June , 2007 Hello flyboys, Whe found a WWI 230Lbs bomb whit N°5 pistol. Nothing new,but to our surprise (and whe were lucky) the pistol whas a long delay N°5. This works like a N°17 long delay pistol used in WWII. Nowbody of us ever heard of this pistol so whe started searching. Whe found out it whas called a N°5 Mc Alpine long delay pistol. This pistol has never been found and i think it never will be.But never say never. Info is scarce about this pistol and i wonder if any of you flyboys have any info on it. Any thing is welcome. Terry_Reeves Posted 6 June , 2007 Share Posted 6 June , 2007 Taucher There are at least two versions of the McAlpine Long delay fuze, but essentially the striker was held back by a piece of wire. A capsule of acid was broken over the wire and eat its way through it. The thicker the wire, the longer the delay of course. TR
