Remembered Today:

Maryland

Hello all

I am asking for help with a ship named "Maryland" which transported troops from Devonport on 8 January 1916 to Alexandria in Egypt for the Senussi campaign.

Any data, pictures etc. would be appreciated.

Regards

Rory

Hello Rory, not sure whether this is the same vessel:

On 16th December 1916 the SS Maryland, defensively armed, 4,731 grt, was attacked by gunfire from German U-boat U 52, W from Gibralter, Atlantic Ocean, escaped by use of gun. Best wishes

Thanks David

I'll take my chances on it being the correct ship.

Hi Rory

If it was the one David suggested - this could be her (tonnage is right)

There looks to have also been a Danish registered Maryland (according to the shipping details on Find My Past) but The Times of 25th August 1914 reports she had been sunk by a mine in the North Sea

Cheers

Sue
