Does anyone have any specific information on the activities of the Royal Garrision Artillery on the Isle of Sheppey? I'm researching the lives of men with connections with the village of Newick in East Sussex, and one, Ernest Groves RGA, 19th coy (No. 111968) died there on 4th February 1917. Records in NA show from Spinal Meningitis. Many thanks.

According to my copy of Station of Units of the Regular Forces, Special Reserve, Militia, and Territorial Force dated 1st July 1913 (issued Quarterly) at Sheernes the were four RGA Companies there, No 2, 18, 19 and 22 Company.

That makes sense John. Possibly his first posting to one of these Companies after his enlistment at Fort Brockhurst.

Gold Stars all round!!

He was posted to No. 19 Coy in August 1916, having joined in May 1916.

Interestingly a scribbled note in his records at the NA gives his burial place as the Isle of WIGHT, not Sheppey!! On a sadder note, he was married with five children.

Many thanks for taking the time to help.
