I have never seen any evidence of 'stoker mechanics' on British submarines before 1947, nor have I ever seen the term Great War service cards held by the submarine Museum at Gosport

I have never seen it before, but any annotation in the Sub Ratings column meant extra pay. All I can come up with is the allowance given to Stoker Ratings who where in sole charge of engines over 100HP, this being on small craft not part of a ships fit. The allowance was 6d per day.

Can you post the Service Certificate it may put it into perspective.

James,

AD is Artificer Diver.

Could the SU be SD?

What rank of stoker was he?

Regards Charles

Charles

Definately SU the s looks like an 8 though.

AD 14.11.96-7.10.04 Stoker through to Acting Cheif stoker.

SU 1.1.96-30.6.06 Stoker through to Acting cheif stoker.
