ejcmartin Posted 18 May , 2007 Share Posted 18 May , 2007 Just found out that my daughter, aged 11, goes to the same school where Tommy Ricketts, VC finished his schooling. Having won the VC at age 17 he went back to St. John's to school. He later became and owned his own pharmacy in St. John's. One learns something every day. Even more than that when on the Grear War Forum!

ejcmartin Posted 18 May , 2007 Author Share Posted 18 May , 2007 I actually got to see his VC at the new Canadian War Museum on a visit to Ottawa last year. Pretty amazing he was all of 17 years-old. He was from a very small fishing outport in Newfoundland. Another interesting point is another lad born in a small outport just across the bay won a VC with the Canadian Army, John Croak. He grew up in Canada though in the town of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia.
