Adrian Roberts Posted 18 May , 2007 Share Posted 18 May , 2007 On the night of March 31st 1916 ten Airships set out to raid London. Four returned without reaching the British coast and the rest dropped their bombs in the Essex area. The first airhsip to be brought down in a raid on Britain was downed that night, when L15 was hit by AAA and, losing its gas, subsided into the sea off Margate. I can't find a specific record of bombs landing near Blackmore but presumably the villagers felt thankful to God for their preservation.
