chrisharley9 Posted 16 May , 2007 Share Posted 16 May , 2007 Another lad who died in the Central Military Hospital Eastbourne His DC arrived today which on 1st sight shows a case of a non commemorated casualty The details are as follows 343472 Private Thomas Henry Martin 1st/6th Northants Regt who died of influenza & double pneumonia at the Central Military Hospital Eastbourne 13 Dec 1918 (the memorial shows 15th) However this is where Im going to have to say having checked CWGC thoroughly I have come with a possible match Name: MARTIN, THOMAS HENRY Initials: T H Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Private Regiment/Service: North Staffordshire Regiment Unit Text: Depot Age: 25 Date of Death: 13/12/1918 Service No: 34347 Additional information: Son of Francis and Sarah Martin, of Dunston Heath, Stafford. Now I suspect a DC in error in this case My reasons are There is only one Thomas H Martin listed in quarter 4 for the death indexes No MIC listed for 343472 Martin so I think there may be error in the service no (OK so maybe he did not serve abroad) I have picked unit errors with the Central Hospital Memorial before What does everyone else think? Your opinion is valued All The Best Chris
Stebie9173 Posted 16 May , 2007 Share Posted 16 May , 2007 The CWGC man did see overseas service with the number shown: Medal card of Martin, Thomas Corps Regiment No Rank North Staffordshire Regiment 34347 Private http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...p;resultcount=2 The Northamptons didn't have a 1/6th Regiment. The 6th was a Service Battalion. Only the 4th battalion was T.F. I would say that the North Staffs man is right and the Northamptons man is an error. The Northampton TF numbers were never in the 300000 range either. Steve.
