reebrov Posted 12 May , 2007 Share Posted 12 May , 2007 I am trying to establish how my great uncle died. His CWG record states that he - D/229997 Chief Petty officer Evan Henry Lambert, HMS Lochinvar, Royal Navy, died 27 Jan 1945. I have his military record from Kew but it would seem that he was discharged then possibly called up for WWII. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance I Roberts
horatio2 Posted 12 May , 2007 Share Posted 12 May , 2007 Simplest way would be to obtain his death certificate. Probably a death by natural causes at his age. He was presumably a recalled pensioner - he would have gone to pension in about 1927. He was well on in years to be serving. If the papers from the NA do not include his WW2 service, his WW2 record has not been released. It is available to n.o.k.
Kirkes Lamb Posted 12 May , 2007 Share Posted 12 May , 2007 HMS LOCHINVAR was a shore establishment at Port Edgar (near the Forth Bridge) in Scotland. It was the home to Minesweeping operations during the Second World War. It closed in 1975, when the Minesweeper and Fishery Protection Squadrons moved across the water to the Rosyth Naval Base. spithead Posted 12 May , 2007 Share Posted 12 May , 2007 In 1945 HMS Lochinvar was the shore establishment at Granton, 1943-46. During this time Port Edgar was renamed HOPETOUN Regards John
