Hambo Posted 7 May , 2007 Share Posted 7 May , 2007 I have a couple of mentions of the "Woolich" in an old book which I hope someone could help me understand what it is! To put it into context Lt W.J.Fletcher RN has been appointed to the Woolich, additional for the Defender in command, to date from January the 20th and below Lt J.H. Brougham Rn has been appointed to the Woolich, additional for the Ariel on commissioning Anyone? Thanks Hambo
joseph Posted 7 May , 2007 Share Posted 7 May , 2007 Hambo, Woolich, could be HMS Woolwich 'Destroyer Depot Ship', Defender and Ariel where in the 1st Destroyer Flotilla. Defender damaged at Jutland. Regards charles
HERITAGE PLUS Posted 7 May , 2007 Share Posted 7 May , 2007 put it into context I'm no expert but I read the statements as Fletcher to Woolwich as an additional Officer until Defender is commissioned when he becomes CO of that ship. Brougham similar but to Ariel's Officer compliment i.e.not in command after commisioning. Both on Defender as pre-ship commissioning vessel class type familiarisation.
