stevenbecker Posted 3 May , 2007 Share Posted 3 May , 2007 Mates, I was wondering you have any details on this officer. He was commisioned into the RFC in Feb 1917 from the AIF. But I don't know what Sqn he was in or any other details then it appear he may of did his training in Egypt. He did survive the war so thats a dead end also. Any thing to file some holes would be nice. Cheers S.B
Starlight Posted 4 May , 2007 Share Posted 4 May , 2007 Hi, Some bits and pieces for you but nothing re his squadron. On the newly opened Australian site on the AIF http://www.awm.gov.au/database/nroll.asp You'll find embarkation details of George Stanilaus Wilkinson. In brief, his service Number was 804, he enlisted as a private in the 2 Infantry Battalion (Oct 14) and embarked on HMAT Suffolk (Ship No: A23) on the 18th October 1914 from Sydney. From the Gazettes on line database I found three entries for G. S. Wilkinson 31/07/17 Appointed 2nd lieutenant (on probation) in the Special Reserve, effective 10th April 1917 30/11/17 Appointed temporary captain (from temp lieutenant) effective 15th November 1917 22/01/18 Appointed honoorary captain effective 12th January 1918 01/08/18 Joined the unemployed list effective 25th June 1919 Regards Steve
stevenbecker Posted 5 May , 2007 Author Share Posted 5 May , 2007 Mate, Yes thanks I have his Australian Service records only needed the holes filled on the British side of the house. He appears to be one of the many that went throw the war unnoticed and recorded. S.B
