Andrew P Posted 2 May , 2007 Share Posted 2 May , 2007 Remembering those who died in the attack on May 2nd 1915 in the vicinity of Dead Mans Ridge Gallipoli 13th, 14th, 15th & 16th Battalions of the 4th Australian Infantry Brigade The Otago and Canterbury Infantry Battalions The Royal Naval Division I don’t know the figures for the other units, but the 16th Battalion lost around 160 killed that day. Before the attack they were just over half strength so this attack cost them dearly. One of the Casualties, Lt Kieran Anderson of South Fremantle
horatio2 Posted 2 May , 2007 Share Posted 2 May , 2007 Of the two companies of Nelson Bn. RND that took part, there were about 200 killed and wounded (some 40% were casualties including about 50 d.o.w. or k.i.a.). The two RMLI battalions, Chatham Bn. and Portsmouth Bn. (who were called forward late in the battle on the morning of 3 May) sustained over 100 k.i.a. or d.o.w., the great majority of these being in Portsmouth Bn., and hundreds of wounded
michaeldr Posted 2 May , 2007 Share Posted 2 May , 2007 Andrew, thanks for this chance to remember As H2 has pointed out to me previously, I'm here today because my grandfather was not in one of those two Nelson companies but rather he was down the hill with their reserves on this occasion. Remembering T/Z89 and all of his comrades-in-arms, and all who fought and all who suffered Michael
