kin47 Posted 17 April , 2007 Share Posted 17 April , 2007 Hello An abbreviated account SIR THOMAS PICTON was sent to Gallipoli and arrived at Mudros on 15 Dec 15. By mid January 1916, she moved off to Port Said then steamer up the Suez Canal to Ismailia on 4 February to provide heavy gunfire support if the Turkish forces on the east side of the Canal should attempt another cross, as had been attempted twelve months earlier. PICTON was allocated in May 1916 to the GOEBEN watch at Imbros , relieving ABERCROMBIE. She relieved RAGLAN at Stavros in August. On 4 September 1916 she was damaged by six hits from a mobile battery and sustained nine wounded. PICTON was back at Malta in February to have her guns changed. She arrived at Venice on 22 March 1917. On 23 May, PETERBOROUGH and PICTON bombarded the importatnt Austrian airfield at Prosecco and a railway line out of Trieste. From Grado on 19 August, PETERBOROUGH and PICTON bombared Mount Hermada. If you need better detail, drop me an email through the forum. PETERBOROUGH and PICTON sent to Malta on 2 February 1919 and arrived UK in March to be paid off. Laid up at Immingham in May. All best don
