SiegeGunner Posted 12 April , 2007 Share Posted 12 April , 2007 Vanquisher was launched at John Brown's on the Clyde on 18 August 1917 and completed as a minelayer, so she is 'on topic' for the Great War Forum, even if service aboard her in WW2 isn't. ian turner Posted 12 April , 2007 Share Posted 12 April , 2007 The conversion of these V&W class destroyers invovled the removal of the forward boiler (and funnel) and replacing with extra fuel tanks; the removal of the forward ('A' turret) gun and replacing with a 'Hedgehog' anti-submarine mortar multi-launcher; the removal of the aft gun ('Y' turret) and replacement with depth-charge launchers. There was more, and if I correctly recall, the improvement of air defences - the midship high-angle gun was replaced with anti-aircraft guns and the bridge AA defences were stiffened up with additional guns. The bridge also grew a sort of radome - I think for HFDF (Huff-Duff) equipment. Ian

kin47 Posted 13 April , 2007 Share Posted 13 April , 2007 Hello Sad story on WW II destroyer logs. Almost none exist after 1939 dates. There was a big document purge about 20 years ago and they were deemed as unnecessary and not worthy shelf space. All best don
