jaywalker Posted 7 April , 2007 Posted 7 April , 2007 Can anyone tell me the likely reason for John transferring from the Cameron Highlanders to the Labour Corps... What exactly was the Labour Corps? Would he have chosen to go or was he pushed? JIM
Chris_Baker Posted 8 April , 2007 Posted 8 April , 2007 Some info here: http://www.1914-1918.net/labour.htm The LC was manned by troops who had been downgraded from a medical point of view.
eltoro1960 Posted 8 April , 2007 Posted 8 April , 2007 Another category of men were the 'Russians', in reality a host of Baltic states as well as Russia. Post 1917 revolution a lot of them were moved to the Labour Corps from Infantry units as they were deemed to be of doubtful reliability. And echoing Chris's comment the medically downgraded made up a fair amount of the men.
