John Milner Posted 30 March , 2007 Share Posted 30 March , 2007 More likely to be Officer's Cook. Officer's Cook rate was still in use in the 60s and 70s. There are no Clerks in the RN they are called Writers. Regards John Milner

per ardua per mare per terram Posted 30 March , 2007 Share Posted 30 March , 2007 Harold Williamson, 'A Dictionary of Great War Abreviations,' 1996, gives O.C.=Officer's Clerk. Off.Ck. 1 Cl. for Officers Cook 1st Class
joseph Posted 30 March , 2007 Share Posted 30 March , 2007 Officers Cook 1st Class; Substantive rank Petty Officer. Kings Regulations and Admiralty Instructions 1913 Vol. II Chapter XV Section 47. Of the 121 listed Ranks there is no Officers Clerk, does Harold Williamson give a source for his Officers Clerk. There is a Clerk in the Accountant Branch but that is an Officer with the Substantive Rank of Midshipman. Regards Charles
james_harvey Posted 30 March , 2007 Author Share Posted 30 March , 2007 mine was named on the rear of the 1914-15 star if that helps? James
joseph Posted 31 March , 2007 Share Posted 31 March , 2007 James, Do you have his number that will indicate what division he was in? Regards Charles
per ardua per mare per terram Posted 31 March , 2007 Share Posted 31 March , 2007 I'm getting more convinced os Officer's Cook. Williamson doesn't give individual references for each abreviation. If this star is named to a man in the RN have you downloaded his service register? That will give other ranks that he held, which should settle the matter.
