Hi John, not too sure about the FY question, possibly Filey ?

I can see you have an interest in WW1 trawlers and have included some of the favourite search links I use for naval searches. You may have some of these already but if they can be of any use to you.

There are also naval forums out there on the web but I stick to the one and only GWF, as its all I have time for (and simply the best!).

John,

When fishing vessels were requisitioned by the Royal Navy and converted for whatever role they were to serve they gave up their port / fishing number and were transferred to the RN Pennant /Pendant system which indicated the type of vessel

FY — Fisheries (auxiliary trawlers, drifter etc.)

A full list of RN Pennant prefix of suffix letters can be found Here

Cheers Terry

ps Scroll down the link to see why the HMS Lancaster's initial pennant number F232 was quickly changed!
