Soren Posted 25 March , 2007 Share Posted 25 March , 2007 Hello Pal's, This is based on a a story from the Gallipoli film by Sam Neil, as the Gallipoli landing areas were being evacuated silently at night a soldier said "I hope they won't hear us marching to the beach tonight" as he pointed to the fallen soldiers buried near by. Not sure if I have the saying correct......

michaeldr Posted 26 March , 2007 Share Posted 26 March , 2007 Nice work Soren The remark was made by a Digger [does anyone know his name?] to General Birdwood 'I hope they won't here us marching back to the beach' from Carlyon's 'Gallipoli' (page 633) Carlyon also mentions that General Godley left a letter for the Turkish commander asking him to preserve the Anzac graves. regards MIchael
