calvin Posted 25 March , 2007 Share Posted 25 March , 2007 hello everyone, thanks again for further info. can anyone tell me when fishermen and their ships where taken up by the admiralty, did they usually stay with them or where they posted to where they where needed . ie. could the fishermen be sent anywhere and to any other ship other than the one they where on prior to the war . thanks john
joseph Posted 25 March , 2007 Share Posted 25 March , 2007 John, When war broke out ratings were entered under what was known as " Ships' Agreement T. 124," and by this they were liable only for service on board the ship for which they were engaged. In August, 1916. however, the Admiralty decided that this was hampering the commissioning of ships badly. The men were signed on as necessary by the marine superintendents, and the form to which they agreed was known as "Ships Agreement T. 124 X." Under this they agreed to serve in any commissioned vessel, and not, as in the original form, in one particular vessel only.
