ShirlD Posted 25 March , 2007 Share Posted 25 March , 2007 Is it possible to see if Sub Lt. Alfred George Jolley RNVR was listed on submarines? I know he received 2 medals but that is it at the moment. Thanks Shirley
sadsac Posted 26 March , 2007 Share Posted 26 March , 2007 Chris - regret cannot find mention of `your' JOLLEY (or Jollye / Jolly / Joll) in Nominal List Officers Submarines or even Navy list for 1915 & 1918 ???? No mention either in `Gongs file'. Is a puzzlement !! Sadsac
sadsac Posted 26 March , 2007 Share Posted 26 March , 2007 Chris - TWO medals - if he served WW1 he would suppose he would have received `Pip, Squeek, Wilfred' at least. Sadsac
ShirlD Posted 26 March , 2007 Author Share Posted 26 March , 2007 they are interesting foreign medals. One I have, the Stanislas Grade 3, the other I discovered on this site by a very kind "old sweat"! I have information regarding ledgers at National Archives, so that is where I will head sometime this year when we visit UK. Thank you for your interest. Cheers Shirley ps Chris is the other half! Pip, Squeak, Wilfred??
horatio2 Posted 26 March , 2007 Share Posted 26 March , 2007 The Fleet Air Arm Museum has the RNVR officers' pay and appointing ledgers in their archive. It could be worth asking them if they have anything on your man.
per ardua per mare per terram Posted 26 March , 2007 Share Posted 26 March , 2007 Pip - usually the 1914/15 Star Squeak, - British War Medal Wilfred - Victory Medal Also known as a (1914/15 Star) trio Named after cartoon charactors of the time. "TWO medals - if he served WW1 he would suppose he would have received `Pip, Squeek, Wilfred' at least." Not true, millions of service men only recieved 2 medals:Mutt and Jeff. Mutt, - British War Medal Jeff - Victory Medal Also known as a pair. Again named after cartoon charactors of the time. The two medals you refer to, Shirley, are decorations not the general campaign/service medals. His WWI service medals will be listed on the medal roll on microfilm, at Kew, ADM 171/90 ROLL OF NAVAL WAR MEDALS Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (and other branches): Officers Ge-Ode.
