nhclark Posted 23 March , 2007 Share Posted 23 March , 2007 I have a relative who served in minesweeping operations out of Grimsby (HMS Peken/Pekin and HM trawler Peken/Pekin) from June 1916 to discharge in December 1919. Deck Hand until April 1919 and A.B. thereafter. His service card makes specific reference to "1916, 1917 chevrons." Is there any particular reason why this would be noted? I have not seen it before on any army or navy record. My understanding is that chevrons were automatically awarded for each year of service in any WW1 unit. Is this correct? His medals were the Victory Medal and the British War Medal. Thank you, Noel
joseph Posted 23 March , 2007 Share Posted 23 March , 2007 Noel, I have seen it on several naval records, its just recording he was entitled to them. Regards Charles
