truthergw Posted 19 March , 2007 Share Posted 19 March , 2007 I have recently acquired the above three volumes of what I suppose is the Reichsarchiv equivalent of the O.H. books . These three volumes cover winter 1914 to end of 1915. All German offensives are covered, Eastern fronts as well as France. I suspect that the most interesting section is the maps. A total of at least 100 maps and sketches in a variety of scales. I would be happy to scan parts of the maps. The books are in Fraktur. I will scan sections of the text but do not have time to translate.
MartH Posted 22 March , 2007 Share Posted 22 March , 2007 Hi A generous offer for people who do not have access to the volumes. There has been a discussion about these volumes in this thread. You are right the maps are interesting, I myself have scanned some of Volume 13's maps for this thread, and am scanning some of the text for some one else. One almost feels that there should be a thread outlining the contents in more detail. Regards Mart
truthergw Posted 22 March , 2007 Author Share Posted 22 March , 2007 Hi Mart. The big drawback is the Fraktur. When I was taught German, we were still given a slight introduction to what we called Gothic Type.( 1952) We were told that it was no longer used but that lots of books existed still. I was able to pick it up again reasonably easily when I returned but I guess it would not be easy for someone who had not encountered it before. I certainly cannot read for very long, which is why I had to dodge translations. These are excellent books and are much more to my taste than the Schlachten des Weltkrieges series of which, I also have a few.
