Guy Herbert Boisragon Dent was born In Aldershot on 30 May 1892. He enlisted in East Africa on 10 August 1914 as a Private in the East African Mounted Rifles before being commissioned into the King’s African Rifles as a Temporary Lieutenant and serving 25 September to 7 December 1914. Then to the Special List as a Temporary Lieutenant possibly as an Interpreter, then a 2nd Lieutenant with the Hertfordshire Yeomanry from 10 May 1915, seconded to Royal Flying Corps from 2 March 1916. Just before this, he earned a Royal Aero Club Aviators certificate (number 2209) taken on a Maurice Farman Biplane at Military School, Shoreham on 20 December 1915. With the R.F.C. he flew MFLH, Avro, BE2e, NFSG, Martin-Syde and FE2b aeroplanes. Then he was seconded to the West African Regiment, 24 January 1917, he was promoted Lieutenant, 1 July 1917. He had a very good knowledge of West African languages and dialects. He relinquished his commission, 20 September 1921. He also served in the Royal Air Force for part of the Second World War. Guy Herbert de Boisragon Dent wrote as ‘Guy Dent’, an author of adventure stories (The Detective Magazine) and science fiction, including the the novel Emperor of the If in 1926. With copied m.i.c., aero club certificate and other research.

In 1901 he was living at Sunnycroft, Haywards Heath with his parents Herbert, a major in the Arnmy aged 49 he was born in Madras India. His wife Mabel was 38 ans=d also born in India. They had 4 servants and a governess Guy was their only child aged 8. 

1911 Census he was at the Royal Artillery Woolwich aged 18.

28^th March 1929 going to Genoa 2^nd Class. He was 36 and living at Kenne, Abbotsham, South Devon. He returned in June 1929 to Southampton and gave his occupation as an author.

 

(1892-1954) UK author of whom little is known, though it is established that he served as a Flying Officer in World War One. He is best known for his adventure stories, none of them fantastic, many of them featuring animals in natural habitats; his one contribution to sf was Emperor of the If (1926), a Scientific Romance which describes two of the possible universes created by a disembodied brain in a laboratory. In the first part – which is in effect an Alternate History – a past in which Britain never suffered from an Ice Age is superimposed on the present, with vivid descriptions of a London overrun by prehistoric flora and fauna; in the second the locale is a future Dystopiawhere humans exist under the domination of self-reproducing Machines. Guy Dent

Guy Herbert de Boisragon-Dent (1892-1954), who wrote as Guy Dent, was an author of adventure stories and of one science fiction novel: Emperor of the If(1926). This describes two of the possible universes created by a disembodied brain in a laboratory: one is a world in which Britain never suffered from the Ice Age, and the second is a dystopia where humans are dominate by self-reproducing machines. See the Encyclopedia of Science Fiction. I have not yet found any biographical information apart fro the very scanty data contained in his War Experiences.
