all though i joined this forum to find out about my own great grandfathers time in the great war my husband asked me to see what i could find on his own great grandfather we did a little bit of research some time ago but didnt find very much - his name was james cunningham he died on hms hampshire june 5 1916 age 40 prior to this he served the royal irish fusiliers and was wounded in south africa ,are service records for irish service men found elsewere

soldiers papers prior to 1913 are at the NA, Kew.

do you mean wounded during the boer war 1899-1902 ? there is a book that lists those wounded (dont have a copy as a friend has borrowed it) and should give more details

re- james cunningham thanks for that do you know name of the book, ignore message about error my son sorted it out still a novice with computers not been able to find image details of his medal card can you help

James Cunningham is mentioned in the following book,-

THE SOUTH AFRICAN WAR CASUALTY ROLL

The "Natal Field Force" 20th Oct. 1899 - 26th Oct. 1900

Pub. by J. B. Hayward 1980

'5926 Pte J. Cunningham 1st R.I.F. Wounded at Farquhar's Farm 30.10.99'.

There are no Medal Cards but his Soldiers Documents will be under WO 100 at the N.A.

Medal cards are for WW1 army only. As mentioned above papers will available for his South African service,

and you will be able to download his WW1 naval service papers online.
