Remembered Today:

Anyone near Pwll (Swansea'ish!)

Hi Chaps,

Not strictly WW1 but buried in Pwll (Bethlehem) Baptist Chapelyard is one Major Hugh Emrys Bonnell of the RAMC. He died in May 1941 and appears on our local memorial here in Runwell, Essex. I'm still yet to make the connection between him and Essex but suspect it is probably through our local hospital that opened in the 1930's and recruited far and wide.

I'm trying to get a picture of his grave to be included in the roll of honour book that I am working on and is near completion. All monies raised go towards helping restore our local memorial, which has many WW1 men on it and gives me a tenuous WW1 connection.

If anyone can assist be very grateful

Thanks

Steve

Pwll is a bit outside my orbit I'm afraid. Danygraig is better and I'll have a look in the next few weeks. The number looks like its a civilian grave - do you know, Jim, if there definitely is a CWGC headstone on it?

Sorry, Bernard, I don't know. The grave is one cared for by the CWGC but I think Terry mentioned that only about 30% get a CWGC headstone. I have looked for others cared for in the cemetery by the CWGC that might be near it but none obvious.

OK Jim I'll have a look but I'm off work with a pulled muscle at present but hope to be back in later this, certainly next week. I can pop over to the cem in my lunch hour as its not far.

  • 4 weeks later...

2 snaps PMd; the rest would be better by e-mail if you let me have it. I don't think I can attach to a Forum e-mail? (I'll try now...)

Bernard

[nope, can't attach to an e-mail here...]
