womo Posted 12 March , 2007 Share Posted 12 March , 2007 Hi there again all, Ive been searching to no avail for index cards for two members of the RNR. The first is my great grandads pair. The rim of his medals reads: 4802E.S. A.C.Williams. ENGN. R.N.R. His name was Albert Charles Williams. The second is one from my collection, a trio awarded to Simon Dobson Mc intosh. The rim of his medals reads: T.S.3943. S.D.MC INTOSH.TR.R.N.R. Any help to aid me in understanding all the lettering and hopefully to retreive MIC's would be a great help. With regards, Womo
benson Posted 12 March , 2007 Share Posted 12 March , 2007 Womo The reason is simple there aren't any MICs for the RNR the records are kept at the Fleet Air Arm Museum at RNAS Yeovilton Alberts rate was 'Engineer' probably marine engineer and Simons T.S. was 'Trawler Service' 'Trimmer' Dave

per ardua per mare per terram Posted 30 March , 2007 Share Posted 30 March , 2007 The RNR medal rolls are in alphabetical order and are held at Kew on microfilm ADM 171/120-124. The MICs are army records.
ARABIS Posted 13 May , 2007 Share Posted 13 May , 2007 Hi, ENGN. with the suffix E.S. after the service number is a R.N.R. Trawler Section rating & is the abbreviation for Engineman. Engineer [abbreviated to ENG.] is a commissioned or warrant rank so there would be no service number on the medals. David.
