Hi Tim,

Only a tiny piece of information so far. He was gazetted as a temporay second lieutenant in the army on the 7th April 1915, so he did not spend long before at that rank before he transferred to the RFC.

  • 11 years later...

Lt Richard Eldon Bush who flew a Sea Plane in Fishguard on patrol, sadly lost control and crashed into the cliff at Fishguard.  The blackened mark is still there 100 years on!

Graham Shurmur Bush crashed in D.H.2 5970 which had been delivered to No 29 Squadron on 19 April, so had survived a week before being wrecked.

Richard Eldon Bush had been flying Sopwith Baby N1033 when he crashed on 22 April 1917, succumbing to his injuries two days later.  According to 'Flight' of 30 March 1916, he had been injured almost a year earlier: "THE Secretary of the Admiralty has announced the following casualty:— Under date Mar. 24th : Injured. Flight Sub-Lieutenant Richard E. Bush, R.N."
