submarine Posted 11 March , 2007 Share Posted 11 March , 2007 Dear All I am research an Africa GSM Som 02-04 , to Midship`Gerald E B Carter RN, later a Lieut . He died 5 August 1915 when in Command of Submarine C33 , she was lost with all hands . No wreckage was found no itis thought C33 hit a mine. The Medal is mounted on card,with a few handwritten notes, which says " She probabley hit a mine off Smiths Knoll. Is there an area off the Norfolk coast known as Smiths Knoll ?. submarine Posted 13 March , 2007 Author Share Posted 13 March , 2007 Thanks Guys Sorry for the delay with my reply,I have spent many hours as a guest of the local NHS I managed to brake a bone in my right foot ( not half as exciting as when Beckham did it I can assure you ). Thanks for all the info`sorry i confused Norfolk and Suffolk. I have tried the Museum and they do not have a photo of Carter,but must ask for C33.
