5 August 1915 when in Command of Submarine C33 , she was lost with all hands . No wreckage was

found no itis thought C33 hit a mine.

The Medal is mounted on card, with a few handwritten notes, which says " She probabley hit

a mine off Smiths Knoll. Is there an area off the Norfolk coast known as Smiths Knoll ?. And

can anyone point me in the direction of a photo of either Carter or C33 ?

Hello Colin

The C33 disappeared after completing trawler/submarine operations with the trawler Malta.

Smith's Knoll Light Vessel is off the Suffolk coast at Lat. 52 x 52 N, Long. 2 x 15 E.

The Book 'Silent Warriors' gives full information on the loss of this submarine including crew lists

Hello

Looked on A.B.E. for SILENT WARRIORS and only found Marine Snipers and love stories. This book sounds interesting. Who is the author and the publisher?

Many thanks
