Remembered Today:

Body Servant - Henry James Lamb

Hi all

Can anyone enlighten me as to what the abbreviation "B.SVT" stands for? I have a medla to a Henry James Lamb upon which this appellation is impressed. A friend mentioned that this is for "Body Servant" but he wasn't sure. If this is correct then what were the functions and duties of a "Body Servant"?

Also, how many of these chaps were on a ship and how scarce is the rank?

Please help.

Regards

It stands for Boy Servant, so it was the 'Boy' (for simpliity he was under 18) rating for the domestic branch.
