Hi Tim,

I searched on the National Archives database under "Burnie" and "Royal Flying Corps" and came up with only one man, 2Lt Arthur Inglis Burnie. It stated that he was initially with Number 8 squadron RFC and went on to fly with the Royal Aiir Force.

I then looked in Henshaw's "The Sky Their Battlefield" and found one entry for a "Burnie", except that it had the initials AJ and not AI.

Seeing that this entry was for Number 8 squadron also (and that no other match came up on the National Archives database), I would say that he is most likely the same man that you have and that there was a typo in the initials.

The entry is for the 11th October 1915 and states that 2047 BE2c 8 Sqn - whilst on an Army Reconnaisance sortie, went Missing in Action (with 2Lt A J Burnie - pilot and 2Lt B O Wilkin - observer), both to Holland 19/04/18 [combat Villeret with Ltn M Zander KEK. Nord]

Regards

Steve
