Marlene Posted 2 March , 2007 Share Posted 2 March , 2007 Kia Ora Would someone please l describe the WW1 medal cards available from the National Archives for me? What information do they contain? Are they plain or coloured? Are there photos of the medals? I'd love to see one if possible! In return I have some wonderful pictures of postcards my William John sent before his death on 5 September 1917. I'm not that computer literate but if someone contacts me privately I'm happy to send a copy! or 2! Beautifully embroidered etc. Marlene New Zealand

peter__m Posted 3 March , 2007 Share Posted 3 March , 2007 Marlene. All I can say is go ahead and download them. The pals here on the site will give you the utmost help in deriving all the info you can from them. They're nice to have as part of your research on family members. I downloaded a few and I'm really glad I did. They'll tell you at least... When a soldier went out there, Regiment, battalion, promotions, medals awarded and a few other wee details. Of course once you can pin a man down to a battalion then you can go in search of a few war diaries and find out more about specific actions he would have been involved in. Go for it. Happy to help you out anytime, Peter Hope you are enjoying the forum.
