Lieutenant Colonel G.H.N. Jackson DSO

Would anyone have any information, at their disposal, on the following British Officer:

Lieutenant Colonel G.H.N. Jackson DSO of the Border Regiment.

Jackson was for a while in 1916 seconded to the Headquarters of the 2nd Division, 1st AIF. It would appear he came to the attention of the then Major General John Monash, and then became his GSO1 in the Headquarters of the 3rd Division, 1st AIF.

Your assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Thank you very much for your replies. Any chance of being pointed in the right direction to find, and read, the recommendations for the awards of DSO and CMG in 1917. I believe that Major General John Monash, Commanding the 3rd Div, 1st AIF must have put Jackson up for the awards.

Again my thanks.

DSO LG 1-2-1919

Maj. and Bt. Lt.-Col. (T./Brig.-Gen.) George Hanbury Noble Jackson, C.M.G., D.S.O., Bord. R., comdg. 87th Infy. Bde.

For great gallantry and resource in the operations near Gheluvelt on the 28th September, 1918, and the following days. Whenever circumstances were in the least difficult he was always to be found with the leading troops fearlessly exposing himself and inspiring all ranks by his example.

(D.S.O. gazetted 27th September, 1901.)

Jackson, who would command the 87th Brigade in 1918, mentioned in the diary of the Brig Maj of the 87th in July 1915...

12th July 1915

All arrangements were made for us by the 13th Divn staff out of sheer kindheartedness, Jackson (Border Regt GSO 3, 13th Divn) doing most of it, while Holdich on the IGC’s staff (just arrived) did what he could to help us among the chaos.'

I know this is an old topic, but Jackson is mentioned in the diary of the 87th Brigade's Brigade Major whilst he was GSO3 13th Division. Lucas, the BM was later to become CO 87th from August 1915 - late 1917... before Jackson took command in 1918.
