24 Sqn. RFC

Had this email from my friend in Canada, can anyone add any more detail? Thanks in advance. :)

Thanks for the co-ords for Tincourt. I was looking too far west for it, it

seems. My relative's name was Frank Poulter and he was an airman in the

24th squadron Royal Flying Corps. He died on June 3, 1917 and is buried at

Tincourt Cemetery, so if you know anyone going to Tincourt maybe they can

snap a photo of his grave. I have the grave number as well. I tried

posting a message on your WW1 site but they wouldn't let me have access to

post. So, anyway, we're now trying to find some info on the 24th RFC

sqaudron because I figure there might be a photograph or something of him in

it. I found out about the man because I've been researching the family

history for about the past year and a half, and his name came up. I wanted

to find out a bit more about him and how he died so that I can put it all

into our Family Heritage Book.

Owen,

I have had a quick look through "A History of 24 Squadron RAF by Illingworth and Robeson MC" and they list your man as having joined the squadron 9/2/17 and killed on 3/6/17. There is no home address listed for him, this may be because he was killed before the end of the war. Robeson was c/o 24 from 1/2/18 to 3/2/19.

Hi John,

I was wondering could you check your 24 sqn book for any mention of Wilfred Poulter. I know he was killed serving with them in March 1918. Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

John

Have you looked in AIR 79/472 for his RAF service record? Btw not everyone was photographed in WWI, it was still a rarity.
