Glad you said that, Soren — it's what I thought when I saw the first one, but I didn't know how to put it.

Is that 'get out more pencils' or 'get out and about more'? :D

These are very nice indeed, Soren! I think I like your ink washes better than your "normal" technique. I particularly like some of the faces in these two. Interesting how you imply so many features of the face with so few actual lines. :)

One of my idols is Edward Ardizzone,

Oh yes! Have you ever seen the book "The Otterbury Incident"? He did the illustrations - really excellent drawings for what was essentially a kids' book.
