alanclimb Posted 22 February , 2007 Share Posted 22 February , 2007 Could someone explain the card, Reg No etc, and why the switch to AOC. What did the AOC do in the war. Thanks Alan
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 22 February , 2007 Share Posted 22 February , 2007 He would have stated in the KRRC,Numbered R~13477;transferred to the Army Ordnance Corps, possibly he had been a Battalion armourer?,and renumbered 043455,he went Overseas on 30th December 1915 {thus just qualifying for the 1914~15 Star} The reference codes by the Medal listings refer to the Medal Roll Pages, for which the MiC was, basically, the Army Medal Offices, internal reference. the X with two dots interspersed by Pte @ the top of the Card indicate that "Pte" is the "rank" to be impressed on the Medals, though he had held the appointment of L/Corpl,according to the Card. The AOC would have been responsible for the distribution;arming;re~cycling, etc; of all manner of Ordnance{see the Long Long Trail for further info}

PPCLI Posted 23 February , 2007 Share Posted 23 February , 2007 is there any way of finding out the reg that he served with so that I can track his movements through the war By 'reg' I take it that you mean battalion? If so, you need to check his 1915 Star medal roll entry, starting from the reference given on the medal card: RAOC/2C, 149 This can only be done at Kew. The reference above is the former code and will translate to a new WO 329 code. There are only two volumes for the 1915 Star RAOC: part of WO 329/2922 and 2933, so he will be in one of these two rolls. As for tracking his service, beware the pitfalls, e.g., it will also be worth getting an idea of when he transferred to the RAOC - no point in knowing all about the actions of the nth Bn KRRC in Nov 1917 if he transferred to the RAOC 6 months previously. All the best, Stuart
