debs mcfadyen Posted 20 February , 2007 Share Posted 20 February , 2007 Being a newbie I hadn't searched the forum sufficiently and probably put my original post in the wrong place, so having another go. I would be very grateful if someone could interpret for me. I'm trying to trace my GGrandfather's military life and am having to try all sorts of avenues I've downloaded the Medal details from the National Archives. The thing is I'm not sure yet if this is my GGrandad. The record shows a name - which could be him, Arthur E. Rice (His name was Arthur Edmund Rice) Corps. - ASC Rank. - Driver Reg No. - T4/070426 The medal roll says Victory - RASC/101B47. page 4800 British - Ditto. Many Thanks
Max Posted 20 February , 2007 Share Posted 20 February , 2007 Hi These links from the main site should give you a good start. http://www.1914-1918.net/grandad/grandad.htm http://www.1914-1918.net/mics.htm Unfortunately, if you do not have any service details of your GGrandfather then there is a fair possibility that the man whose MIC you have downloaded may well not be the person who you are looking for. The only way to be certain is to try to locate his service record at Kew, but here you only have about a 25-30% chance of success due to large numbers of files being destroyed in WW2, or try to locate him on an absent voters list. The first link above should give you one or two tips here. Andy
Coldstreamer Posted 24 February , 2007 Share Posted 24 February , 2007 The medal rolls held at the NA might show his middle name
