Vessels attached to HMS Royal Arthur

Hi All,

Does anyone have a list of vessels attached to the depot ship HMS Royal Arthur during the period 15/07/1916 to 10.03/1918. I have the service record of another family member serving aboard during this period, and there is the name of a vessel mentioned, it looks like "Royal Arthur" (Tr Cockoo)?

Thanks in advance,

Donny

Donny,

Can you post a scan of the relevant part of the service record? A number of pals specialise in deciphering difficult handwriting.

Thanks for that Dave.

Hopefully someone will be able to decipher this, here's the attachment.

Thanks in advance,

Thanks Mick,

I can find two Cuckoo's, both trawlers, only one of which matches the date of first posting on the service record which by the way is for my wifes grandfather a private in the RMLI. So thanks again. :D

Donny

Thanks All,

The most likely candidate is the Steam Trawler Cuckoo, launched 30/01/1896 and requisitioned from the Yorkshire Steam Fishing Co. of Hull in 1914 as a minesweeper and returned to commercial use in 1919. At some point in her RN service she was renamed Nightjar. This info from the book "Cook, Welton & Gemmell - Shipbuilders of Hull & Beverley".

The second Cuckoo was not requisitioned until 1917 and is listed in " Royal Navy Trawlers pt2" by Gerald Toghill.

Thanks once again lads,

Donny
