Remembered Today:

G. Ripart Illustrations of French soldiers

I recently acquired four 5 inch by 7 inch water color prints (probably from a book) done by a French poster artist and illustrator named G. Ripart. I think the G. stands for Georges, but not positive. The four prints are titled -

"Artilleur...Partout!!" this is a French artillery officer smartly dressed in 1914 - 1915 colors

"Fusilier Marin Yser 1914" this is a Fusilier Marin in dark blue 1914 uniform

"Poilu La Marne 1914" this is a Poilu in 1914 uniform

"Zouave Verdun 1916" this is a Zouave in moutarde khaki uniform

Does anyone know if Mssr. Ripart painted other military subjects? I know he did a well known commercial beer poster and several magazine and book illustrations for various subjects, so he was what we'd call a commercial artist nowadays. I am not interested in his non-military illustrations or paintings, although some are very good.

All the best,

Dan

I don't think he illustrates other military books. there is also a book on French colony were there might be military illustrations.

Hope it helps.

Best,

Julien"

Thanks Julien!

All the best,

Dan
