cmf Posted 19 February , 2007 Share Posted 19 February , 2007 Hi all, My late Grandmother's half-brother, William Winstanley (b. Barnsley c.1899/1900 d. Rochdale c.1931) was, according to information passed on to my Father, with the RFC during WWI. No MIC exists for a William Winstanley, RFC, that I can find (meaning, of course, that he may never have left these shores), but are there other sources of information out there (short of Kew) that may confirm his RFC service? per ardua per mare per terram Posted 19 February , 2007 Share Posted 19 February , 2007 The online MICs are for the army not the RAF, these haven't been released to the public yet. Only a small proportion of the army MICs have details for the RFC/RAF on them so his not being on them isn't a sign of anything. Howerver his late date of birth makes it unlikely he would be in a war zone before the war was over. You can try contacting the MOD RAF records section and as you say Kew for the AIR 78 index.
