ATM Posted 15 February , 2007 Share Posted 15 February , 2007 Could anybody give me a list of the U-Boat Flotillas that were around in May 1917?
Michael Lowrey Posted 15 February , 2007 Share Posted 15 February , 2007 ATM, Here's a quick overview: Think of Germany has having a number of largely-independent commands controlling U-boats, with each command controlling one or more flotilla of U-boats. These commands, which were geographic are: * German-based North Sea (the High Seas Fleet or, in German, Hochseeflotte): typically four flotillas (number varies by date) * Flanders, one later subdivided into two flotillas * Mediterranean aka Pola, one later subdivided into two flotillas * Black Sea aka Constantinople, a half-flotilla, later under the control of the Mediterranean command * (eastern) Baltic, a flotilla, which had various names at various times * Slightly later, a U-cruiser flotilla Best wishes, Michael

Gyrene Posted 8 March , 2007 Share Posted 8 March , 2007 The Osprey book U-Boats of the Kaiser's Navy has a list of the flotillas and the boats which comprised them. If someone wants a list I can post it.
