Remembered Today:

Help with service record please

Can anyone help with my grandfather record card from National Archives. He was a mechanic.

I have attached the list of bases.

I have seen the comments re President II elsewhere on this forum.

My father told me he served in Belgium, he followed his progress on a map I still have.

When he returned to UK at some point he was on the east coast zeppelin watching. I can't see any of this in the record.

Also how do I follow up the RAF records? Do I write to the Fleet Air Museum?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ros

Welcome to the forum, a very rushed answer for the time being.

RAF Service records are held in service number order at Kew in AIR 79 but you need to add 200k, so F22222 RNAS was 222222 RAF. His medals will be in ADM 171; both of those are offline.

The FAA museum holds RNAS enlistment papers.

Thank you for your reply. Very helpful.

I had found the National Archives site rather confusing, after the initial sucess with the online records.

I'm new to this. Ros
